Living Well: our new approach in our region
This Healthy Weight, Healthy Wales report sets out a “Living Well” whole-systems approach to tackling excess weight in the Hywel Dda and Swansea Bay region, explaining how our environment shapes what we eat and how we move—and why only a third of adults locally are a healthy weight—while drawing on participatory system mapping and local data on healthy weight, diet and physical activity to identify where collective action can make the biggest difference.

Young People Transitioning from School to Community Environments
This report evaluates a Sport Wales pilot project exploring what motivates young people (aged 13-14) in under-served areas of West Wales to move from school-based physical activity into regular community participation—sharing findings from a co-creation approach that worked directly with disengaged pupils, alongside practical lessons, stakeholder outcomes, and recommendations for sustaining the work.

This Stage 2 EXPLORE report for Sport Wales captures what young people in West Wales told the project team through a five-step youth engagement and co-creation process—sharing their views on their lives, pressures, and perceptions of sport, and revealing why many don’t see themselves as “sporty”—to help local authorities design physical activity opportunities that feel low-cost, local, social and enjoyable.
Physical Activity Experiences of Minority Ethnic Older Adults
This WIPAHS study explores the physical activity experiences of minority ethnic older adults in Wales, using focus groups with 16 South Asian adults aged 59+ to understand the barriers and facilitators that shape their exercise habits—from health, cost and cultural norms to the value of group settings—and sets out practical recommendations to make the 60+ Active Leisure Scheme more attractive to this under-represented group.

This UK Coaching Population Study 2024 report, produced by YouGov, presents the key findings for Wales—exploring the number of coaches, their activity and demographics, and what both coaches and participants value—showing that results in Wales largely mirror the wider UK, with participants prizing coaches who are friendly, approachable and give constructive feedback.
Understanding participation and non-participation in sport amongst Black and minority ethnic groups in Wales
This Sport Wales–commissioned research, produced by Leeds Beckett University’s Institute for Sport, Physical Activity and Leisure, examines participation and non-participation in sport among Black and minority ethnic communities across Wales—drawing on wide-ranging fieldwork to explore the influences, barriers and enablers that shape involvement, and to inform efforts to widen participation.
Youth Voice Social Action “We need to be heard” Report
This Youth Voice Social Action report shares the findings of a project led by young people with disabilities and additional support needs from Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, who consulted 96 children and young people to explore three issues that matter most to them—healthy eating, keeping fit, and individual identity—and set out their own solutions and calls for change to decision makers.
Fit and Fed Delivery Annual Report
This StreetGames annual report sets out the delivery and impact of the Pears Foundation–funded Fit and Fed programme in 2023-24, which gave children and young people free physical activity and nutritious meals during the school holidays—reaching 3,928 young people across clusters in Swansea, Denbighshire and Plymouth, providing 6,000+ meals and snacks, and piloting new community-led ways of working.
SHAPING THE CYMRU UEFA WOMEN’S EURO 2025 LEGACY
This “Vision-to-Action Blueprint,” produced through a Gender Equity Accelerator led by Ashoka Sport for Changemaking with Team Cymru and the Football Association of Wales, sets out how to build a lasting gender-equity legacy from Team Cymru’s participation in UEFA Women’s EURO 2025—placing empathy at the heart of Welsh football and offering systems-level recommendations to tackle exclusion and harassment and make the game more welcoming and inclusive for women and girls.
