Working together to transform sports kit reuse

Every year, an estimated 454 tonnes of sports kit ends up in landfill, generating the equivalent of 32,400 tonnes of CO₂ – while many families struggle to afford the sports kit their children need. Across West Wales, partners recognised both the environmental and social cost of this challenge and came together to create a shared solution. A third of four- and five-year-olds in West Wales are above a healthy weight, according to new research

The organisation behind the report warns that “unless we act decisively now too many people will face a future marked by preventable ill health.” One in three children in West Wales aged between four and five years are above a healthy weight, research from Activate West Wales has revealed. Launching a shared ambition for a more active and healthier West Wales

Activate West Wales has officially launched, bringing together partners from health, education, sport and local government to improve access to physical activity for people of all ages and backgrounds across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. The launch event was held in Llanddarog Community Hall in Carmarthen, where nearly 100 partners gathered to hear more about Activate West Wales, its aims, its wants, and its call to arms. The State of the Region report was presented by Chair of Activate West Wales, Dr Sue Barnes, which highlighted rising inactivity, declining sports participation and widening health inequalities across West Wales.
